Words like bridge-builder, collaborator and philanthropist were always used to describe Mayor Chuck Jordan.  His impact on the City of Greenville and surrounding counties was immense.  His love for his Delta community was never-ending.  To honor and preserve his memory, the Community Foundation of Washington County (CFWC) is pleased to announce the establishment of the Chuck Jordan Endowment Fund, benefitting the Community Foundation of Washington County and all its work.  Jane Jordan gave the generous lead gift to create this fund as a fitting legacy for her husband.

In immediate response to the establishment of this new endowment fund at CFWC, Planters Bank and Trust Company presented the foundation with a matching challenge.  Planters Bank agreed to match, dollar for dollar, every new gift to the Chuck Jordan Endowment Fund up to $10,000.  According to Andy Sanders, President of Planters Bank in Greenville, “We are thrilled to partner with the Community Foundation in support of the incredible work they are doing here in our community.  The creation of a permanent legacy worthy of Chuck Jordan is the perfect way to ensure his leadership and love of our community continues for generations to come.”

Becky Tindall, one of the Foundation’s founders and a past member of the CFWC Board of Trustees said, “Chuck Jordan was, first and foremost, a people person. He was drawn to strangers who instantly became his friends.  That personality trait served him well his entire life, and a countless number of us consider ourselves blessed to be in Jane and Chuck’s circle of best friends.  I once witnessed him ‘work the room’ where no one but us spoke English!”  Tindall added, “Chuck was a determined, creative leader, whether serving as a successful banker, a community volunteer, a church member, or as Greenville’s mayor.  He never failed to astound me with his ability to put two (or more) people, businesses, charitable organizations, and/or government bodies together to find pathways leading to the betterment of our community. The greatest gift he left us was his vision for what could be accomplished if all of us sat down together to tackle mutual concerns.  Today, what Chuck did best serves as a model for the Community Foundation of Washington County: to identify the greatest needs and then bring together resources from the private, corporate, governmental and non-profit sectors to address and meet those needs collaboratively!”

“The Board of Trustees is honored to be a part of the creation of a permanent legacy to honor Mayor Jordan and to help ensure that his vision and his passion for our community will bear fruit for years to come.  The establishment of the Chuck Jordan Endowment Fund will be the engine that enables the Community Foundation to drive and expand our grant-making and scope of programming to best serve our community in the future,” stated Doug Wade, Chairman of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees.
