EVERY DOLLAR WILL COUNT! To date, we have qualified close to 40 residents who have requested our assistance in their long-term recovery efforts from the devastating backwater flooding in Sharkey, Issaquena and Humphreys counties. Representatives from Mennonite Disaster Service (MDS) recently quoted a figure of $65,000 per complete rebuild using 100% skilled volunteers, so the rebuild price tag alone could be as high as $1.3 million. This is a staggering number, and just last week, we had a response team from MDS who completed the demolitions of 11 homes. This is the first step in moving the process of recovery forward for our friends and neighbors across the South Delta.
It is through events like the One Mississippi Singer Songwriter Benefit Concert scheduled for Saturday, November 2, 2019 at The Gin at Dunleith, that we will be able to fund the repairs, restorations and complete rebuilds to help those in greatest throughout our community. We are thankful to the amazing sponsors and musicians who have stepped up to show that we have not forgotten the massive recovery needs in the South Delta!
All proceeds from this incredible musical event will benefit the South Delta Disaster Recovery Fund. The donations to this fund will assist in funding the Delta Delta Force Disaster Recovery Committee, the community-based long-term recovery committee, who is here with “boots on the ground” working along side volunteers from Sharkey, Issaquena and Humphreys counties and in coordination with their local city and county officials and their Emergency Management Agencies to serve the long-term recovery needs of our neighbors to the south.
We hope you’ll join us for this wonderful day of music and fellowship for a great cause by purchasing your concert tickets at the following link:
We are indeed ONE MISSISSIPPI, and together, we will recover and restore this place that we call home!
