Delta Volunteer Hub

My name is Marva Johnson, born and raised in the Mississippi Delta, and I am proud to be the new Director of the Delta Volunteer Hub.  I was taught at an early age, by my parents, the value of giving back and helping others, and treating people like you wanted to be treated.  There has always been a need for serving the most vulnerable in our Delta communities.  Then along came the COVID-19 pandemic, which has impacted all of us in such unimaginable ways!   Despite our recent challenges, there has been a positive outcome from this pandemic.  We have been motivated and encouraged to uncover our creative skills, get re-connected with loved ones, learn from each other, teach our children (even if you got the answer wrong), and volunteer to give back to our home communities!  Volunteers of various races, ethnic backgrounds and ages have been answering the call of “VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!”  Volunteers coming together, liked masked heroes and she-roes, with their protective gear on and saying, “What can I do to help ?”  It brings joy to me when I see volunteers of various ages and races looking beyond the skin color and seeing the need.

The Delta Volunteer Hub serves a nine county region including Bolivar, Humphreys, Holmes, Issaquena, Leflore, Sharkey, Sunflower, Washington, and Yazoo counties.  Our Hub is focused on helping nonprofits organizations grow their volunteer base and working with volunteers to put their passions to work to best serve their home communities.  We’ve worked closely with incredible organizations like the Hearty Helping Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen, Helping Hands of Humphreys County, Ephesus Seventh-Day Adventist Church Food Pantry, Mississippi River Marathon, Greenville Arts Council, Mississippi Food Network and Delta Force Disaster Recovery Committee on volunteer projects essential to their organizations and to our community.  Volunteers from all over our region have worked through our Hub to put their skills and treasured time to work with organizations, events and projects they care about that are making a positive impact!

We are helping connect volunteers to nonprofits and nonprofits to the volunteers they need through our Delta Volunteer Hub platform.  Through this communication venue, we are seeing success in expanding the amount of volunteerism happening across our Delta region!  The platform is FREE to use for both our nonprofit organizations and our valuable volunteers.  Check out our platform at www.deltavolunteerhub.org, and think of all the ways you could put our platform to use to best serve your community!  Then, call me at (662) 378-3141  or via email at mjohnson@cfwashco.org, and let’s get you started!

Also we are promoting and marketing volunteer opportunities through our Facebook page and now, our new e-newsletter.  We’d love for you to follow our page (just click the Facebook icon below) to see all of the exciting work we are doing to support and grow volunteerism!
